Trauma
“There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.”—Maya Angelou
Trauma results from surviving a dangerous and/or intensely distressing experience that overwhelms and even alters our ability to cope and function. I provide trauma-focused treatment designed to help my clients emotionally process the trauma, regain functioning, and find a way to integrate the experience into their life story. If you are struggling in the wake of an accident, assault, combat/first-responding event, abusive relationship, or other traumatic experience, I can offer effective treatments. This is hard work, and I will be with you every step of the way.
Addressing a Difficult Childhood
In addition to trauma experienced in adulthood, I work with adults who experienced a chaotic, lonely, or traumatic childhood. From our family of origin, we receive foundational “blueprints” to understand who we are and ‘need’ to be, what to expect from people we love, and ideas about safety, trust, and intimacy. If you experienced family disruption, childhood abuse, physical neglect, and/or emotional neglect from caregivers, some of these “blueprints” can lurk and leave you feeling blocked in having healthy relationships with yourself and others. Processing these experiences and challenging dysfunctional blueprints can allow you to break generational patterns and find a more robust quality of life. Let’s work on it.
